Mitchell Hill
A historic forest trail network with quiet woodlands and connections to Roche Harbor Highlands and Young Hill
Mitchell Hill offers a vast network of trails winding through dense forests, ravines, and rolling terrain. Once used as historic logging and homestead roads, these trails provide a peaceful, secluded hiking experience with a mix of mossy rock outcrops, towering trees, and rich biodiversity.
The area features lush, moss-covered trails and pockets of rare Garry oak habitat, making it a rewarding destination for nature lovers. While Mitchell Hill does not offer major panoramic viewpoints, its quiet, immersive woodlands are perfect for exploration. Some trails are open to mountain bikers and horseback riders, offering a variety of ways to experience the landscape.
The Horse Trail Trailhead off West Valley Road serves as the primary access point, though parking is limited. Mitchell Hill is part of a larger interconnected trail system, linking to Roche Harbor Highlands, Roche Harbor Lowlands, and English Camp. Hikers can extend their journey all the way to Roche Harbor Resort or climb Young Hill, passing through varied island terrain, including deep forests, wetlands, and rocky outcrops.
